The ekklesia (popular assembly) voted to build the Parthenon at the Acropolis (another sign of democracy).
After collecting all the stones and marble needed to build the Parthenon, workers had to travel eleven miles, which took three days, to get to the Acropolis.
The frieze was the Parthenon’s finest work. But in order to see all of it, you would need to walk along the passageway (1/10 of a mile long) with your head tilted back. (Ouch- how neck wrecking!)
There are NO straight lines at all in the Parthenon. (Did you notice it?) The columns are actually bulging slightly in the middle, causing an eye trick effect. This technique is called entasis, used by Iktinus.
The statue of Athena is worth more than the rest of the Parthenon put together.
